When happens to my controller-----I turn my system off COMPLETELY, then I UNPLUG controller-------restart system (yea---WITHOUT the controller plugged in)...
After it starts to flash push "START" , at that point TURN OFF the system again.
Now, REPLUG in your controller-----then restart and controller should be ok again.
But if it is not---REDO SAME EXACT STEPS as described above EXCEPT the last step-----when REPLUGGING in the controller before restarting system, THIS time HOLD the analog stick in direction OPPOSING error direction that was there before trying to fix, and it should be fine.
One last POSSIBLE solution would be to simply unplug controller from slot #1 position and put it in slot #2 slot instead, that worked on a buddy`s controller when he had similar issues.
I hope this does indeed help---if not or if you do not get better advice, maybe trying another person`s controller to see if indeed it is that your controller is faulty and not soimething else.
