TLK *Weight Lifting Question*
I'm not embarassed to say this, but I can't rep 155 anymore. I went hard for the first time in forever two weeks ago, and killed my arms. Since then, I've taken it lightly and recovered. The other day I went back to rep 135 as a warmup and struggled through 7. I couldn't even get 155 off the rack after doing that warmup.
It's very frustrating considering that my highest bench max was around 230 in high school (I have a long frame at 6'2''...long arms)... What is going on? Any help? I've also gotten on the GNC's new Pro Peformance Nitric Oxide Supplement to help, and it's been tremendous. Again, I'm not embarassed to ask about why I'm not capable of lifting what most high schoolers easily can right now. I honestly feel no discomfort at all. When I went for the first time in a longggg time the other day (2 weeks ago), I repped 155 about 10 times no problem. Now I'm struggling....

Re: TLK *Weight Lifting Question*
Consistency is definitely true you can't take two weeks off to recover. At most one week for each muscle group. Another thing, too many people get caught up in the hype of how much they can bench. Lifting isn't about being able to bench all this weight its about reps, plus theres so many more muscle groups beside chest. So focus on them as well. I advise you to do pull ups there clutch great for the back, which many people lack because their too focused on chest and abs and biceps.

Re: TLK *Weight Lifting Question*
your starting to high thats why.
listen to your body...best way to rebuild your strength after a little hiadious (sp) is to use your own body weight for a week or 2 weeks. meaning do soley pushups, pull ups, crunches...and if you cant do reverse pushups (which are really freaking hard) then use dumbells for a shoulder press. im doing the jeff anderson miliarty workout. i bought the ebook and mondays and fridays are the only dyas i work my muscles and all i do is pushups, situps, pullups, and miliatry press. tuesday wed friday I run. I have lost 10 lbs in 2 weeks. (its not all fat) but its still weight regardless of water or not. I feel great and the pumps I have been getting ARE UNFREAKING REAL. keep in mind theres no breaks inbetween the workout. Its a pyramid training. It works great. |

Re: TLK *Weight Lifting Question*
It was a long hiatus. I didn't go to the weight room since HS football. Now I'm hitting it hard again. I wore my arms out. I still lifted arms when they straight up HURT. But I didn't do much. I still ran everyday (4 miles a day or so), and lifted legs every couple days...
But I just don't understand how my arms/chest feel fine, but when I get the weight up, I can't do more than 5 reps of 135 when I was doing sets of 7 with 155 two weeks ago....

Re: TLK *Weight Lifting Question*
Bench press is all techn**ue and frequency. Strength is not the most important thing. I say just work your way back up, it wont happen over night. If it makes you feel any better, i can only bench 155 once.

Re: TLK *Weight Lifting Question*
Yeah, I have been eating light lately...maybe all this running (4 miles per day) is cutting my muscle mass as well...

Re: TLK *Weight Lifting Question*
It's more than likely one of two things or a combination of both. Getting proper nutrition is crucial. How many calories are you taking in a day? Are you at a negative calorie deficit? Are you getting enough sleep at night? Are you taking power naps during the day?

Re: TLK *Weight Lifting Question*
Ok, here is a typical day for me, even in the summer.
7:00 AM - Wake Up, Breakfast (Yoplait yogurt with oats mixed in, glass OJ, egg scramblers *if I feel like them*) Class from 8-noon 1:00 PM - 1 mile jog/slow run (warmup: i take GNC Pro Performance AMP N.O. Loaded prior to run) 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM - workout with buddy in his weight room (we lift chest/bi 2x week, tri/back 2x week, legs 2x week).....finished with 1 mile run 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM - go to work 8:30 PM - dinner (tonight it was a large salad with low fat amenities, 1 piece lasagna, water) 9:00 PM - 2 mile run __________________________ So it's apparent I need something at lunch. I'd say I have lunch 3 or 4 times a week. I'm just discouraged with my weight if I'm eating during the day. I'm far from anorexic, but I try to not eat a lot. I only eat if I'm truly truly hungry, so to speak. TLK, or anyone else that's certified, much help is appreciated. I weighed 240 at Christmas last year. I'm at 211 right now, and continuing to work towards more lean muscle and less fat. I was a 195-205 lb basketball forward and football tight end in high school, but I want to get under 190...so any help with weights/nutrition is appreciated. I think tomorrow I'm going to go with: Breakfast: Yogurt w/ oats, glass OJ Lunch: Lunchmeat Roast beef w/ lettuce and honey dijon mustard, 1 serving fat free pringles, and water/milk Dinner: Most likely whatever my father decides...

Re: TLK *Weight Lifting Question*
What is your warm-up like? People underrate warming up SO much... it helps a lot. What do you do to warm-up? Chances are you can do a little better.
