Weather has always been in the game for the Madden Franchise. However, it has never really mattered other than for visual effects only. Basically, weather was there to show the gamer a good looking product, but never really impacted the game either way. With Madden 09, that is drastically changing for the better. Now it impacts the game in a very strong way. The players are affected by the elements, just as there real life counterparts would be. When it is raining or snowing, you can look for your favorite running back to cough up the ball more often than he would on an ordinary sunny Sunday afternoon. Also, the speed burners throughout the league better make sure they pack the long cleats in the weather because they depend on the initial burst to get off the line of scrimmage and they will be more likely to slip and lose traction in lousy conditions. 
One really cool feature of the snow and rain are specific touchdown celebrations that cater towards those elements.
